How people choose a restaurant in 2026
Someone in Winter Park types "brunch near me" on a Saturday morning. Google shows three restaurants on a map, with photos, a rating and how busy each one is. Most people pick from those three. A growing number ask ChatGPT or Gemini the same question and get a short list with a sentence about each place.
Both of those results are decided by the same handful of signals, and none of them are luck. Your Google Business Profile has to say exactly what you serve and where. Your reviews have to keep arriving, with replies. Your photos have to be recent and yours. Your website has to load in a second on a phone and repeat the same facts. And enough other websites have to mention you for Google to treat you as an established place, not a new listing.
What usually goes wrong
The profile is half-finished. Categories still say "Restaurant" when you are a Cuban bakery. Hours are wrong for holidays. The menu link points to a PDF from 2023. Attributes like "outdoor seating", "serves breakfast" or "Latin American" are blank, and those attributes are precisely how Google matches you to searches like "outdoor brunch Winter Park".
Reviews stop. A restaurant that collected 200 reviews in its first two years and 4 in the last six months looks closed to the algorithm. Review velocity matters more than the total.
The website works against the profile. Different phone number, an address written two ways, a menu on the site that does not match the one on Google. Every mismatch is a reason for Google to trust a competitor's data more than yours.
Delivery apps own the search. Search your restaurant's name and the first result is DoorDash. You paid for that customer twice.
What we do for restaurants
Local SEO (from $150/month). We rebuild the Google Business Profile properly: primary and secondary categories, every attribute that applies, menu items with prices and photos, service options, and a description written for the searches you want. We set up a review request flow that runs from your POS or a printed QR card, and we draft replies for you to approve. Each month you get a rank grid showing where you appear across your neighborhood for the dishes and occasions that matter to you, not just your own street corner.
A website that does one job. Menu, hours, location, order button, book a table. Custom-coded, so it loads instantly on a phone, with the schema markup that lets Google show your menu and hours directly in results. $1,500 flat, hosting and updates included in the $200/month maintenance.
Google Ads when you want the tables filled this week. Catering, private events, a slow Tuesday, a new location. We run Search and Performance Max campaigns geo-targeted to the area you actually draw from, at a flat $100/month plus 3–5% of spend.
AI search visibility. Assistants recommend restaurants that are described consistently across trusted sources. We get you mentioned, correctly, on the local publications and directories those assistants read, and we track whether "best Cuban bakery in Orlando" returns you.
The first 90 days
Weeks 1–2: profile audit and rebuild, photo plan, review flow live. Weeks 3–6: website fixes or a new site, location page for each restaurant, citations cleaned so name, address and phone match everywhere. Weeks 7–12: first ranking movement in the grid, content that answers the questions people search ("does X have parking", "is X kid friendly"), and the first monthly report with covers, calls and direction requests side by side.
What we have done in this category
We have run local SEO and Google Ads for a nine-location Orlando bakery and café franchise for years: profile optimization for every store, Performance Max campaigns per location, a custom store locator, and a monthly content plan. The client name is withheld at their request; the work and the numbers are in our results section.
